Bilateral Trade Agreement - India
Project Type
International Business
Date
Q4 2019
As Vice President of External Affairs for the Raleigh Regional Association of Realtors, Casey Angel conceived, negotiated, and executed a landmark international trade agreement that strengthened bilateral economic ties between the United States and India through the real estate sector - one of the most powerful engines of global investment and development.
Recognizing the growing influence of India’s real estate and technology markets in the United States (and specifically in North Carolina's Triangle Region), Angel led the strategy and diplomacy behind a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to formalize cross-border collaboration, investment pipelines, and professional exchange between key American and Indian metro markets. The agreement brought together senior real estate leaders and diplomatic representatives from Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Raleigh, alongside consulates and industry leaders from Bangalore and Mumbai - two of India’s most dynamic commercial hubs. The MOU was formally executed in San Francisco, underscoring its national and international importance on a global stage.
Beyond symbolism, the agreement delivered measurable economic impact. The framework Angel established unlocked new channels for inbound and outbound investment, accelerating Indian capital flows into targeted U.S. markets while expanding opportunities for American firms and developers within India’s rapidly growing urban centers. These strengthened relationships helped position U.S. metros as preferred destinations for international investment, while reinforcing India’s role as a strategic global partner in commercial real estate, infrastructure, and innovation.
The success of the initiative earned formal recognition from both the United States and Indian governments, affirming its value not only as a business achievement, but as a model of effective public-private diplomacy. In recognition of his leadership, strategic vision, and ability to translate international relationships into tangible economic results, Casey Angel was named the 2020 Global Ambassador of the Year by the National Association of Realtors.
This work stands as a testament to Angel’s ability to operate at the intersection of global business, government relations, and economic development - building enduring international partnerships that drive investment, strengthen markets, and create long-term value across borders.
